Your car’s paint code gives the formula, but factory paint fades with sun and age, so a fresh mix can still look a shade off next to an older panel. Computerized color matching tunes the mix to your car, and blending carries the new color into the neighboring panels so there is no edge to find.
Three steps between a repaired panel and a finished car.
Every repaired panel is sanded and primed before any color goes on. Paint shows every flaw in the surface underneath it, so the prep decides how smooth the finish looks.
The mixed color is sprayed over the repaired panel and carried into the panels on either side, so the new paint and the old read as one.
A clear coat goes over the color, as it does at the factory. It gives the finish its gloss and protects the color underneath from sun and weather.
Jon Devine, our PPG-certified paint technician, does the painting, and he is at the shop every day. If the damage runs past the paint into the metal or the structure, it becomes a collision repair and the estimate says so.

We also take cosmetic paint work with no collision behind it: a deep scratch, clear coat peeling off the roof, a panel that has faded next to its neighbors. A dent with the paint still intact may need no paint at all, because paintless dent repair can often work the metal back.
Insurance does not pay for wear, so fading and clear-coat failure are paid out of pocket, and the estimate shows the cost before any work starts.
Whole-car repaints and color changes are a different job. They count as restoration work, and we point those customers to a restoration shop instead.
When paint is part of an insurance repair.
Once you’ve filed a claim with your insurer, Fix Auto Bellevue handles it from there. The primer, the color and the blending into neighboring panels are written on the estimate with the bodywork.
If more damage turns up once a panel is stripped, we photograph it and send it to your adjuster as a supplement for approval.

Can you match my car's exact paint color?
Yes. We use your vehicle's paint code and computerized color matching to mix an exact match, then blend it into the surrounding panels so there's no visible line. Factory paint fades over time, and that blending is what makes a repair disappear into the rest of the car.
Do you do full car repaints?
Not as a service. A full repaint or a color change is restoration work, and we send those customers to a restoration shop. What we paint is the work a repair calls for, the panels it touched and the ones the color blends into, plus cosmetic jobs like a deep scratch or a faded panel.
Will insurance pay to repaint my car?
If the paint damage came from a collision or another covered loss, the paint is part of the repair your claim pays for, and your deductible applies. Fading, peeling clear coat and other wear are not covered, so that work is paid out of pocket.
Can you fix peeling clear coat?
Yes. Once clear coat starts to peel, the panel is sanded back, recoated and blended, because new clear coat will not hold over a failing layer. It counts as wear rather than damage, so insurance does not pay for it, and the estimate tells you the cost before any work starts.
